Greek Allies
Greek Allies is an RSO on campus, a primarily Greek based initiative that hosts interactive educational workshops at different chapter houses and dorms dealing with LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) issues and concerns. We discuss how appreciating diversity and becoming an ally is vital for optimal brotherhood/ sisterhood within our individual houses and throughout the entire Greek and non-Greek U of I community. We also host "Train the Trainer" workshops that allow students to take on a leadership role within the Greek Allies organization and use their knowledge and skills acquired to help lead workshops on their own in the future. Please feel free to contact Rayna Schaff (Co-President of Greek Allies) with any questions at rschaff2@illinois.edu.
Greek Community Service
The purpose of GCS is to provide a positive and supportive environment for all Greeks to come together in a spirit of inter-fraternalism and share, work, and act together to benefit the community of the University of Illinois and Champaign-Urbana. Any Greek member in Panhellenic Council, Inter-Fraternity Council, Black Greek Council, and United Greek Council are invited to become members of GCS. Greek Community Service provides members with the opportunity to meet fellow Greeks and do different community service projects at the same time. If you would like to learn more about GCS, please email Brittney Swan at bnswan2@uiuc.edu or visit our website at the link above.
Achieving You
Achieving You is a social and personal issues speaking group that travels to many of the Champaign-Urbana-area high schools for presentations. Our group is composed of Greek women who share their experiences in the areas of alcohol and drugs, body image, and/or relationships. During the fall semester we meet once a week to tell our stories to one another and become more familiar with speaking to large groups. We also prepare ourselves for potential questions we may receive from students. In the spring semester we travel to various high schools in the area and relate our stories to the students. While every story is unique and powerful, some are truly touching in the hopes that peer to peer education will prevent many of the social and personal issues from occurring again. The springtime is also when new members are selected through an application and interview process. Achieving You is a fantastic organization to be apart of and allows its members not only to find support from other sorority women but to increase their public speaking skills as well. For more information, please contact our director Katie Becker at kabecker@illinois.edu.
