Limited Contact
“Limited Contact” is the designated time periods before and during formal Recruitment during which there is limited contact between sorority members and PNMs. This limitation ensures fair recruiting.
Hazing
According to National Panhellenic Council “hazing is defined as any action or situation with or without consent which recklessly, intentionally or unintentionally endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student, or creates risk of injury, or causes discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule or which willfully destroys or removes public or private property for the purpose of initiation or admission into or affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in a chapter or colony of an NPC member fraternity.” Under Panhellenic Council guidelines, hazing is strictly prohibited. There is no tolerance for any sorority on our campus who hazes its members.
Safety
We want you to be safe during the Recruitment period and in general while on campus. To avoid unwanted situations, keep the following personal safety tips in mind:
• Develop a plan of action.
• Avoid walking alone, especially at night. Instead, utilize Safe Rides, the bus system or call a friend
while walking so that someone knows where you are at all times.
• Be aware of your surroundings, including potential “hiding spots” and emergency phones that you can use.
• Walk with confidence, briskly and alertly. Look like you know where you are going.
• If you feel you are being followed, change direction. Go immediately to a populated area.
• If confronted, make noise. YELL! Don’t panic. Use your adrenaline to your advantage.
Use your plan of action.
• If attacked, give a full description to the police as soon as possible.
Alcohol Use
Alcohol is not part of the Recruitment process, but for your general safety and well-being during your Recruitment period, keep in mind...
Alcohol can affect your vision, motor function and ability to think clearly. If you are under the influence of alcohol or other drugs your chances of escaping an attack are greatly reduced. Be aware of your situation and surroundings at all times and do not be afraid to refuse alcohol. |
